Waste-Based Materials as Tools for Regenerative Architecture
How can agricultural waste serve as a tool for developing regenerative architecture rooted in locality, circularity, and long-term stewardship of resources?
The project investigates the architectural potential of agricultural waste as a driver for circular construction and rural regeneration. Situated within the rice-growing landscape of northern Italy, it proposes a materials research and fabrication centre developed in collaboration with the adjacent Riso San Raffaele farm. The building operates as a hybrid environment combining fabrication and material testing spaces, exhibition areas, and community learning facilities, creating an architecture that researches, produces, tests, and inhabits the materials from which it is constructed. It challenges linear material economies by repositioning agricultural by-products as active architectural resources.
