Ecologies of Repair
How can architecture facilitate ecological restoration and stewardship within damaged post-industrial environments?
The project investigates how architecture might operate as an environmental life-support system for damaged landscapes. Situated on the former ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Turin, the project addresses the ecological legacy of industrial decline through a framework of repair, stewardship, and long-term landscape transformation.
Drawing from systems ecology and the Whole Earth Catalogue, it explores architecture as a collection of tools, infrastructures, and practices that support remediation, cultivation, monitoring, and habitat formation. These ideas are embodied within the Landscape Care Laboratory, an architectural framework that brings together research, education, and field operations in support of ecological recovery.
