Ordinary Grounds: Mediating the Right to Remain
This project reframes ordinary urban sites as charged conditions rather than neutral backgrounds. Working across occupied and vacant sites in Kentish Town, it treats constraint, repair, vacancy, planning pressure and everyday adaptation as architectural evidence. Through As-Found observation, public consultation, live modelling and iterative testing, difficulty becomes a productive design tool rather than a reason for erasure.
The proposal positions architecture as a civic mediator between institutional strategies and local tactics, forming a porous framework of workshops, studios, community kitchen, youth space, performance rooms, bicycle repair and public routes. It offers an adaptable infrastructure for stewardship, appropriation and latent futures.
