Meanwhile City: Play, Movement and Urban Interpretation

How can architecture create productive frictions within the smooth city, generating subjective and collective forms of urban knowledge?

Positioning play, movement and daily life at the centre of a regional planning department, this proposal frames knowledge as subjective and planning as collective activity. Occupying the period between abandonment and redevelopment of Turin’s disused Palace of Work, and designed for deconstruction and reuse across the city, it engages multiple temporalities: reinterpreting current conditions, while informing future urban transformations. The proposal challenges urban conditions that position the public as passive recipients of information. Through tactile construction and environmental controls, it invites participation with the built environment, generating alternative perspectives on the urban.
